Due to a combination of injuries and international absences, Saborio was only able to play in 16 league games – including 15 starts – for RSL last year. The Costa Rican Designated Player was tremendously effective when he was on the field, leading RSL with 12 goals and notching two assists in regular season play. His 0.80 goals per 90 minutes led the league. RSL was very effective when Saborio scored, posting a 4-1-4 record in the eight league games in which he found the back of the net. RSL’s all-time leading scorer, “Sabo” had two multi-goal games in the regular season, notching a brace in the season opening 2-0 win on March 3, 2013 at San Jose and bagging a hat trick in RSL’s 3-4 loss at New York on July 27, 2013. Saborio played and started in three postseason games, scoring RSL’s goal in its MLS Cup loss at Sporting Kansas City.

WSaborio will face another year balancing RSL and international duties as Costa Rica will head to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer. He’ll hope to carry over his strong 2013 performances on both the club and international level this coming year.
