Bunbury, one of MLS’ first-ever second-generation players, is one of the league’s young, dynamic attackers … the son of former Canadian National Team and Kansas City Wizards forward Alex Bunbury, Teal starred at the University of Akron and won the 2010 Hermann Trophy as a sophomore before being drafted fourth overall by KC in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft as a member Generation adidas … a big, strong, quick player, he is comfortable playing as a lone striker or underneath supporting a traditional target #9 … adept at hold-up play, but can also create for both himself and his teammates … after scoring five goals as a rookie, he debuted with U.S. Men’s National Team in November 2010 … has seen his last two seasons cut short because of injury after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in August 2012 and later returning to the field in June 2013 … Twitter account: @TealBunB.

HOW ACQUIRED: Acquired via trade with Sporting Kansas City on Feb. 19, 2014, in exchange for New England’s natural first-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money

2013: Made 12 regular-season appearances, including one start, with Sporting KC after returning from a torn ACL that he suffered in Aug. 2012. Picked up the game-winning assist in a 2-1 win over Philadelphia (Oct. 26). Made his official return from the ACL injury on June 12 in the team’s U.S. Open Cup fourth-round match against Orlando City SC. Made two appearances in CONCACAF Champions League. Came off the bench in Sporting KC's 2-0 road win at Real Esteli (Aug. 20) and started the club's 0-0 home draw vs. CD Olimpia (Oct. 23). Also made two appearances in Sporting KC’s MLS Cup championship run. Played 77 minutes at New England (Nov. 2) in leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals and 76 minutes at Houston (Nov. 9) in leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Championship.

2012: Bunbury scored five goals and added one assist before suffering a season ending knee injury (torn ACL) against the New York Red Bulls on August 26. Two of Bunbury’s goals came in a 2-2 draw at Colorado on May 19 (Video). Bunbury struck again in back-to-back matches against the New England Revolution (8/4 - Video) and D.C. United (8/11 - Video). Despite the injury, Teal Bunbury was selected as #20 on Major League Soccer’s 24 under 24. Bunbury also played in four Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches and scored an insurance goal in the 87th minute of Sporting KC’s 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids (Video).

2011: Scored in the second game of the season scoring at Chicago after coming in as a second-half substitution and then scored twice in first start of season on April 2 at Vancouver Whitecaps FC. On July 30. Bunbury also scored the equalizer in road game against San Jose in the 85th minute of regulation on October 1st.  Scored the game-winner against New York on October 15 to help Sporting Kansas City clinch playoff berth. Scored both goals in the first leg of the playoffs at Colorado on Oct. 30. Ended the season tied with Omar Bravo and Kei Kamara as the leading goal-scorer with nine goals.

2010: Drafted fourth overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by Kansas City as a member of Generation adidas. Made 26 appearances, starting 13 games. Scored five goals and added two assists in regular-season action. Made his MLS debut against D.C. (March 27), playing 22 minutes as a substitute. Made his first MLS start on May 23 against Columbus. Scored his first career MLS goal at Columbus (July 14), the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win. His first MLS assist came earlier in the season, in a 2-1 loss at D.C. (May 5). Scored in back-to-back games, at Chivas USA (Sept. 19) and vs. Houston (Sept. 22). Led the league in shots-on-goal percentage (.561), putting 23-of-41 shots on frame. Scored his first professional goal in Sporting’s U.S. Open Cup play-in match against Colorado (April 13). Also recorded an assist in the team’s summer friendly against Manchester United. Selected for the Generation adidas team that traveled to Spain after the season. Scored three goals and added one assist in matches against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid’s reserve squads. Also trained with EPL side Stoke City in the off-season, scoring a goal against Wigan’s reserve side.

COLLEGE: Played two seasons at college powerhouse Akron under former coach Caleb Porter … scored 23 goals and added eight assists in 45 games with the Zips … won almost every conceivable accolade as a sophomore in 2009 including the Hermann Trophy, awarded annually by the Missouri Athletic Club to the nation's top college player … also earned national player of the year honors from Soccer America … earned first-team All-America honors from the NSCAA and Soccer America … helped the undefeated Zips advance to the 2009 College Cup championship match where they fell to Virginia in penalties … was the NCAA's top scorer as a sophomore in 2009 with 17 goals.

U.S. NATIONAL TEAM: Made decision to join U.S. National Team after representing Canada at youth levels … has recorded four caps for the U.S., scoring one goal and adding one assist … debuted for the United States on Nov. 11, 2010, in an international friendly at South Africa under former head coach Bob Bradley … recorded his first international goal on a penalty kick against Chile in an international friendly on Jan. 22, 2011 … received his first call-up by current USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in August 2011 for a training camp, and then was rostered for matches against Honduras (Oct. 8, 2011), Ecuador (Oct. 11, 2011), Venezuela (Jan. 21, 2012) and Panama (Jan. 25, 2012) … recorded his first international assist on Graham Zusi’s goal against Panama (Jan. 25, 2012) … also was a member of the U.S.’ Under-23 Olympic team in 2012, but the squad failed to advance out of CONCACAF qualifying and did not compete in London.

YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS: Was a member of the Canadian Under-17 and Under-20 National Teams before declaring for the U.S. senior national team.
