Shea was selected by FC Dallas in the first round (second overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.

Professional

  • 2011: A finalist for the Volkswagen MLS MVP award, Shea was named to the MLS All-Star team and MLS Best XI. He led FC Dallas in goals with 11. Five of his goals were game-winners, which tied for the league lead.  Shea also added four assists. He ranked fourth on the team in minutes played across all competitions (3,446MP/41GP) in addition to playing eight games with the U.S. National Team.
  • 2010: Shea finished seventh on the team in minutes played (1,797). He made a career-high 25 regular season appearances. Shea scored his first professional goal on May 15 against Philadelphia. He scored two goals in one game on June 5 versus San Jose. Shea ended the season with five goals (tied for third-most on the team) and four assists. He had two assists in four playoff appearances.
  • 2009: Shea made 19 regular season appearances. He earned his first professional start on May 23 versus LA. He recorded his first MLS assist on Kenny Cooper’s game-tying goal versus San Jose on June 7. He recorded two assists in a 6-0 win over Kansas City on Aug. 1 at FC Dallas Stadium. Shea underwent successful knee surgery to repair a small tear in the meniscus of his right knee on Dec. 18.
  • 2008: Shea made his professional debut at Chivas USA on April 20 as a substitute for Blake Wagner in the 86th minute. He appeared in five of FC Dallas’ six international friendlies, including the full 90 at center back versus Club America on Sept. 7. Shea made eight Reserve League starts at forward, left midfield and center back.

International

  • 2011: Shea had a breakout year with the U.S. National Team, playing 505 minutes in a total of eight matches. He flourished under Jürgen Klinsmann, who utilized Shea in all seven matches since being named U.S. National Team head coach. Shea picked up an assist in his first match under Klinsmann, a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Aug. 10. He trained with Arsenal of the English Premier League during the MLS offseason.
  • 2010: Shea made his first appearance with the full U.S. Men’s National Team on Oct. 12, when he played the first half of a 0-0 draw with Colombia in Philadelphia. He was the first player born in the 1990s to make an appearance for the full U.S. National Team.
  • 2009: Shea traveled to Trinidad in January with the U.S. U-20’s in preparation of the 2009 U-20 World Cup. He was named to U-20 roster for the 2009 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago from March 6-16. He was named to the U.S. U-20 roster for the U-20 World Cup in Egypt Sept. 26-Oct. 2. Shea started and played the full 90 minutes in all three group matches.
  • 2008:  Shea was called into three different age categories of the U.S. National Team (Senior, U-20, U-23). He was also called into the U.S. U-20 team in January for the Copa Chivas in Guadalajara, Mexico. He received his first ever call-up to the senior U.S. National Team for World Cup Qualifier at Barbados on June 22, but did not appear. Shea participated in the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland with the U.S. U-20 team from July 29-Aug. 1, scoring twice in three games. Shea was called into represent the U.S. in a U-23 match in France for the Toulon Tournament. He played in all three games for the U.S. U-20 team in Portugal in the Campos Verde International Tournament from April 13-19.
  • 2007: Shea was a member of the U.S. FIFA U-17 World Cup, playing against Tajikistan. Shea participated in camps with the U-20’s prior to the FIFA U-20 World Cup. 2006: Shea made his U.S. debut with the U-17’s versus Trinidad and Tobago U-23. He scored his first international goal in a friendly versus Jamaica U-17s. Shea helped the U.S. U-17’s advance to the final of the Ballymena Tournament.

Personal

Shea played for Texans FC youth club and attended freshman year of high school at Bryan High School in Bryan/College Station before moving to U.S. Residency in Bradenton, Florida. He graduated in the top 10 of his class at Edison Academy. He went to train with Bolton in England in Oct. 2007. His favorite TV show is Rob & Big on MTV and Law and Order SVU. His favorite type of music is hip-hop and techno, with Lil’ Wayne being his favorite artist. He did not start playing video games until U-17 Residency Program but is now a big fan of “Assassin’s Creed,” “FIFA,” “Halo” and “Call of Duty” on XBox. Shea’s favorite movies are “300,” “Troy” and “Superbad.” Shea is a talented artist, who uses his ability to raise money for charity. His favorite athlete is Lance Armstrong. Shea is the middle child of five children, with two older brothers and two younger sisters. He is the son of Charles and Kirsten Shea.
