American Exports: Fabian Johnson could miss matchup vs. Eintracht Frankfurt with injury
AMSTERDAM – Hoffenheim left-sider Fabian Johnson will face a late fitness test before Saturday's Bundesliga contest at Eintracht Frankfurt, having missed prep time due to an abductor complaint picked up in training this week.
The 25-year-old also recently missed time with an ankle injury, but that is now in the rear-view mirror. Johnson, who has not suited up for the US national team since a mid-August friendly win in Bosnia-Herzegovina, returned to club selection last month to make three appearances stationed up the wing.
"Fabian is questionable for the weekend; it's not yet determined whether he will make it in the squad or not," Hoffenheim press officer Holger Tromp told MLSsoccer.com. "In the Monday practice, he had to stop due to a abductor muscle problem. It is not a rupture, but more like a strained muscle."
Johnson has an assist in nine league outings this season, with five of them coming at left back. Fourteenth-place Hoffenheim are winless in their last four Bundesliga games, but are coming off a rousing road upset of DfB-Pokal hosts Schalke in midweek.
