American Exports: DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Orozco Fiscal and Puebla aiming for playoff spot
GUADALAJARA, Mexico – DaMarcus Beasley returns to Liga MX action on Sunday, fresh from the US national team's 2-0 victory over Mexico, as his Puebla team hosts Toluca at Estadio Cuauhtémoc (1 pm ET, ESPN Deportes, Azteca America).
Where Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal play on their return should be fascinating as coach Rubén Omar Romano continues to shape La Franja to his liking, which could mean both Americans playing as wingbacks. Three points for Puebla could lift the team into a playoff position, if other results fall its way.
Also Sunday, Club Tijuana’s Americans Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona, Greg Garza and Paul Arriola travel to Guadalajara to face a struggling Chivas (6 pm ET, UniMas), but Herculez Gomez will not join them and is still a couple of weeks away from debuting following knee surgery.
Jose Torres and his Tigres UANL side play on Saturday in Mexico City against Cruz Azul, looking to get back on track after four league games without a victory (6 pm ET, Univision).
Young forward Alonso Hernandez is still waiting to make his second league appearance of the season and his first under new Monterrey coach José Guadalupe Cruz, with Los Rayados hosting Pachuca on Saturday (8 pm ET, Univision Deportes).
In Mexico’s second division, third-place Necaxa and Sonny Guadarrama travel to Celaya on Saturday (9 pm ET), while Marco Vidal’s Lobos BUAP travel to Jesus Padilla’s Dorados de Sinaloa (10 pm ET).
Down in Brazil, Freddy Adu again missed out for struggling Bahia midweek and will be hoping coach Cristóvão Borges has him in mind when the club takes on Coritiba on Sunday (3 pm ET).
Finally, FC Dallas loanee Moises Hernandez and Saprissa play Santos de Guápiles in Costa Rica’s top division (Sunday, 5 pm ET).
