American Exports: Bolton send Stuart Holden on month-long loan to Sheffield Wednesday
AMSTERDAM – Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden has been loaned to Championship survivalists Sheffield Wednesday for one month.
The 27-year-old US international, who has made just three appearances since returning from knee surgery in early February, is listed as available for Saturday's league visit from Barnsley. Though the Owls stopped short of saying Holden was brought in to plug a specific midfield hole, he should expect a bump in playing time in Sheffield as he works to regain full match fitness.
"[The loan] is until April 24," Wednesday press officer Trevor Braithwait told MLSsoccer.com. "When a quality player becomes available, the manager will be interested. [Holden] ticks a lot of boxes, so we'll see what he can do."
Holden, who is set to join John Harkes and Frank Simek as the third American to wear Sheffield Wednesday's shirt, will temporarily join a club fighting the drop. With nine games remaining, the Owls stand one point above the Championship trap door.
