CCL: Bornstein out, Garza in for Tigres at Alajuelense

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jonathan Bornstein's luck shows no sign of turning.

The 27-year-old is set to miss Tigres UANL's CONCACAF Champions League game against Alajuelense in Costa Rica on Wednesday as he recovers from a sports hernia back in Monterrey.

“It is possible he could be able to train with the group next week,” Tigres press officer Alejandro Garza told MLSsoccer.com, meaning Bornstein (above) will also be unavailable for his team's game against Toluca on Saturday.

Bornstein, whose offseason loan move to Atlante fell through, has found first team minutes hard to come by at Tigres. He was likely to feature in the Monterrey club's CCL campaign this season, but a pending suspension dating from 2008, when he played for Chivas USA, ruled him out of his team's 4-0 victory over Real Estelí in the first game of the group stage.

On the positive side of things for Americans at Tigres, Texan winger Victor Garza did make the trip south with the 18-man squad and is hoping for his second appearance for the team.
