AMSTERDAM – Rapid Vienna forward Terrence Boyd bagged his third Europa League goal on Thursday, but it was Mikkel Diskerud's Rosenborg that walked away 3-2 winners.

After helping to set up the visitors' equalizer just after the break, Boyd was quickest to a rebound to put his side ahead in the 66th minute. Mere moments later, Diskerud had a fair penalty shout ignored after picking a pocket in midfield to race 40 yards to the area. The US midfielder was then shown yellow for dissent.

AMSTERDAM – Three US internationals pitched in with strong Champions League performances on Wednesday, headlined by Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones setting up the 1-0 winner against Olympiakos that clinched their place in the knockout round with a game to spare.

With 13 minutes to play, the No. 13 shirt won a challenge to square the ball to Christian Fuchs, whose low liner tucked inside the far post on one bounce from nearly 30 yards. The Miners will now try to win Group B with a victory at Montpellier on Dec. 4.

AMSTERDAM – Despite another solid Champions League outing from Michael Parkhurst, Danish champs FC Nordsjælland saw all knockout hopes dashed by a controversy-marred 5-2 home defeat to Ukrainian counterparts Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday. 

The US right back, whose lone demerit was for being among the culpable on Shakhtar's second equalizer near halftime, also saw yellow in stoppage time to break up a rush. Parkhurst spent most of the night ably helping his side forward into attack.

AMSTERDAM – Michael Bradley put in another solid shift for AS Roma on Monday, helping the patient hosts score a 2-0 victory over Torino in Serie A play.

The US ace was nearly flawless in the midfield passing game as the Giallorossi rallied from last week's derby disappointment. In the end, a pair of goals over the final 20 minutes lifted Roma two spots in the Scudetto race to sixth.

The Goonies may never say die, but that doesn't make them immortal.

On a wild night of MLS action on Wednesday, MLS Supporters' Shield winners the San Jose Earthquakes crashed out of the MLS playoffs after falling 3-1 to the LA Galaxy in the second leg of their Western Conference Semifinal series. That result gave the Galaxy, the reigining MLS Cup holders, a 3-2 aggregate victory.

AMSTERDAM – It was a productive Sunday for Americans playing in Europe, led by Clint Dempsey's game-winner at Southampton.

The US star ran down a rebound for the easy finish six minutes before intermission to bag his second EPL goal of the season as Tottenham Hotspur got the 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Brad Friedel needed just one save to backstop Spurs up to fourth place.
