AMSTERDAM – Though he had interest on the continent, fresh FC Nordsjælland pick-up Conor O'Brien says he has landed in the perfect spot to continue an upward career path.

Clubs from Belgium and the Netherlands were in frame for the winter free agent, who developed into one of the Superliga's finest midfielders during 18 months with mites SønderjyskE. However, he opted to remain in Denmark with the defending champs.

AMSTERDAM – Maurice Edu and Bursaspor suffered a rather unlucky Friday, with US midfielder sent off thanks to a pair of questionable yellow cards in a 2-1 defeat at Gaziantepspor.

The former Toronto FC man was enjoying a solid performance in a tie game when he was whistled for the 77th-minute penalty kick foul that would decide the game. Edu was in disbelief after being booked as part of a danger free kick wall and replays seemed to show that any contact with his hand would have come from a quick carom off a neighboring teammate.

AMSTERDAM – Brad Friedel and Clint Dempsey moved on to the Europa League sweet 16 on Thursday, thanks to a last-minute Moussa Dembélé strike that earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-1 second leg draw and 3-2 aggregate victory.

The veteran netminder made two saves, including a second half stunner on Clément Grenier that kept Spurs in position for a rally. Dempsey entered in the 66th minute, quickly going close on a header off a restart.
