Chivas USA
You have an iPhone. You use it all the time. You sing songs to it. You need it. You love it. Maybe a little too much.
Maybe you sleep with it under your pillow. Maybe you grouse to it about your boss. Maybe you tell it about that one time in college when you... well, that's between you and Siri. Because Siri understands.
Siri also understands updates. She loves 'em. And we love 'em, too.
So here's the MLS iOS app update, which was just approved in the store.
Key new features:
- Condensed games for MLS live subscribers
- Enhanced highlight ui
- New live ui
- Bug fixes
Oh, and Android users? Your update is coming. Be patient.
Sent from my flip phone.
You may have heard that the New York Red Bulls traded Juan Agudelo to Chivas USA for Heath Pearce on Thursday.
It's a move that raises lots of interesting questions. Are young players getting enough match experience? Is experience more valuable than potential? Which player has the better set of abs?
I can almost guarantee that, prior to reading it, that was the very last question you had about that transaction. But now that I've read the latest analysis from the Kickette blog, it's the one that's going to be in my head for the rest of the day.
Drink him in, ladies and gentlemen. The Red Bulls may have just traded a promising striker, but in return they got one of Major League Soccer's sex symbols.

After his latest multi-game suspension in a New York Red Bulls uniform, some in the media have wondered whether it's time for Mexican midfielder Rafael Marquez to move on.
But how many were expecting this?
ESPN Deportes reporter Rafael Ramos tweeted the following on Thursday night: "Everything indicates that Rafa Marquez will end up with Chivas USA. It looks like they will end up paying 50% and 50% together with the Red Bulls. In NY he's the rotten apple."
That tweet was immediately followed up with a response from Chivas USA GM Jose Domene: "Dear Rafa [Ramos], I don't know who your source is, but we have not sought him out. I'd be glad to chat with you when you'd like."
@rafaramosESPN Estimado Rafa, no sé quien sea tu fuente, pero no lo hemos buscado. Encantado de platicar contigo cuando gustes. Abrazo

There’s a lot that goes into being a captain, and each of the 19 in Major League Soccer approach it in a different way. From Shalrie Joseph’s ever-present chatter to Davy Arnaud’s work ethic, our new series “Taking the Lead” provides an in-depth look at what leadership means to those wearing the armband, as told in their own voices. The series debuts Wednesday, April 18 with Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman.
The first MLS international transfer window of the season closes on Monday night and reports have several MLS teams scrambling to make some late additions to their squads. The next international window opens in the summer.
Here's the rundown of the names in the news:
Kai Herdling: The Philadelphia Union are rumored to have worked out a loan deal for the 27-year-old Hoffenheim forward which could potentially run through December.
Luis Advincula: The Houston Dynamo are reportedly chasing this Sporting Cristal winger with paperwork already being exchanged, according to this article.
José Erick Correa: Chivas USA may be landing an in-form striker from Boyacá Chicó, who has six goals in league play and has been called up to the Colombian national team this week.
Andreas Dober: The Austrian right back is reportedly in Portland negotiating a move to MLS. He currently plays with TSV Hartberg, which has given him the all-clear to leave.
Wilmer Crisanto: The Honduran Olympic right back has been linked to FC Dallas and D.C. United. But his contract status with Honduran side Victoria is still unclear.
Arnold Peralta Another Under-23 Honduran player is rumored to be heading to D.C. United with a contract already on the table. This report has a rumored seven-month loan from Honduran club Vida with an option to buy.
Daniele Paponi: The Italian forward from Bologna was reportedly heading to the Chicago Fire on trial. The MLS club says that they have sought out information about Paponi but they say they've not been directly in contact with him.
These days, 5-3-2 is usually seen as a sign of respect when facing an opponent far superior in strength (e.g., anyone vs. Barcelona).
But to win in Fantasy Soccer: Manager, perhaps it's best to think that you are playing Messi & Co. each week. The FS:M Dream Team has lined up with five defenders four out of five weeks thus far. Ironically, this formation is producing more points for teams than the 4-3-3 and 3-4-3. I myself have been lined up mostly in a 3-4-3 thinking that midfielders and forwards would get me the most points. Fail.
Player HAWAIIFAN13 proved the benefits of the 5-3-2. In Week 5, he rode the formation to 106 points, the second highest score recorded by a team this year.
So what does this mean for the rest of the 2012? Do the stats suggest taking a completely different approach and start dumping midfielders (and even forwards) for defenders? You be the judge.
Players averaging 5.0 points or more per game (by position)
Defenders – 27
Goalkeepers – 12
Midfielders – 10
Forwards – 8
The numbers above should make your decision a little easier. At this point in the season, there is more security in starting defenders than there is at any other position. Honestly, it’s not even close. Forwards and midfielders can be a huge investment, and so far, most of them aren’t living up to the asking price.

Well, at least it’s something to take back from Mexico. The US U-17s topped El Tri 1-0 in the fifth-place match on Monday at the Mondial Minimes tournament in Montaigu, France.
New York Red Bulls Academy product Wesley Wade scored in the 59th minute for the decider, the forward’s second strike of the tournament for Richie Williams’ side.
The US U-17s finished 1-1-1 in Group B of the prestigious youth tournament, with a dominant 4-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates, a 1-0 loss to Portugal and a 1-1 draw with Japan (a 4-3 penalty-kick victory in the finale saw them advance to Monday’s fifth-place match).
Williams named seven MLS Academy products to the 18-man squad for his first tournament in charge of the team. Wade was one of three RBNY youngsters, and Chivas USA Academy forward Bradford Jamieson also scored a pair of goals in France.
Portugal won the 12-team tournament with a penalty-kick shootout victory over Russia in the final. England placed third while Japan came in fourth.
