MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the LA Galaxy Foundation brought LA Galaxy mascot, Cozmo, along with the MLS Cup trophy to visit with patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Cozmo visited with patients in the activity center where they were working on arts and crafts and playing board games and video games. Patients were able to take photos with the MLS Cup trophy and hang out with Cozmo for the afternoon.  Cozmo also stopped into a few rooms and gave all patients MLS Cup 2012 mini soccer balls and MLS Cup t-shirts, courtesy of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the LA Galaxy Foundation.

The Learning Center featured a mural by Code 4, new carpet, chairs, tables and bookshelves as well as new books, Panasonic TV and an Xbox 360 console, which was generously donated by Xbox.

FC Dallas Goalkeeper Chris Seitz Named MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year

Major League Soccer announced today that FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz was voted the 2012 MLS W.O.R.K.S. Humanitarian of the Year.

This past August, Seitz was contacted by DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow center, and told that he was a potential bone marrow donation match for a leukemia patient. Seitz, along with his then Real Salt Lake teammates, originally registered with DKMS to become bone marrow donors in 2009 as a gesture of support for teammate Andy Williams and his wife Marcia, who was battling a rare form of leukemia.

Seitz traveled to a DKMS participating hospital for further testing and was confirmed as the best possible match for the patient. Because timing is critical in the bone marrow donation process, Seitz committed to a September surgery in which doctors extracted bone marrow from his pelvic bone with a hollow needle inserted through small incisions. As a result, he missed the remainder of the MLS season.

Congratulations Chris!

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the MLS to Queens Street Team spent their weekend volunteering to clean-up Flushing Meadows Corona Park in conjunction with the local Parks Department’s clean-up efforts.

On Saturday, 12 people dedicated their weekend to volunteer and clean up over 250 bags of debris, primarily near the youth playground on the west end of the Park. On Sunday, 15 people volunteered and cleaned up over 300 bags of debris near The Olmsted Center.

Julissa Ferreras, Democratic member of the New York City Council residing in and representing the 21st district of Queens, showed up on Sunday to help and bought pizza for the MLS Street Team to show her thanks for helping the community.

This is one example of how the MLS League office staff and the entire League is stepping up to help the Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. Join MLS W.O.R.K.S. as we support Red Cross relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy. Donations help the Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy. To donate, people can visit, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
