#20. Diego FagundezPos: F | New England Revolution | Age: 16
The ranking is surely a reflection of the buzz created by the spiky-haired 16-year-old, who has only played in two professional soccer matches. He made one of the most impressive debuts by any teenager in league history when he came on as a sub against Chivas USA in early August and in just 24 minutes he scored a goal, drew a penalty kick and nearly helped the Revs complete a dramatic comeback. The Uruguayan-born attacker showed off the creativity, elusiveness and attitude which have New England fans dreaming. But the Revs coaching staff is taking it slow with Fagundez. He has only received 11 minutes of playing time since that first appearance. What the TDs and coaches say: “There’s another level there with him … Technically very talented and links well going forward … His understanding of the ball in possession is unique. He shows good range with the ball at his feet … Defensively he’s tactically weak but special on attack … The on-field discipline and positioning are not there, but he’s young … Is he too small for a forward? If you’re on the small side like him, you definitely have to be stronger. You can question his size but plenty of players have still found a way to succeed.”
