#22. Roger Torres
Pos: M | Philadelphia Union | Age: 20
Torres’ talent is inversely proportional to his diminutive size, which has made the Colombian a fan favorite at PPL Park. But despite the flashes of sublime skill, Torres is yet to convince manager Peter Nowak that he can be a starter. Despite two consecutive starts, the Union have primarily employed him as a catalyst off the bench and he consistently proves he can impact a game when coming in as a super sub. The debate is sure to continue as to whether it's his best role.
What the TDs and coaches say: “Good talent. Exciting. He’s got great feet, a good eye for goal. He’s a good passer of the ball and wants to go forward with it … It’s about being more dominant: Can he be on the ball more and can he be the guy to make a difference in the match? … Has to make quicker decisions about which are the right moments to play the ball and where to play the ball … He has the talent and technique and can wiggle out of trouble … There are parts of the field he gets the ball where he has to play simpler … Sits a little too deep in midfield … There’s also the physical aspect — he can be a little bit stronger.”
